- SchonewaldEA has completed numerous projects for the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) under geotechnical engineering General Consultant Agreements. Projects completed by SchonewaldEA for MaineDOT, as well as multiple MaineDOT prime consultants, have required performance of our full range of services. Work has included designing and executing complex subsurface exploration programs to completing geotechnical analyses and developing project-specific geotechnical recommendations for design and construction, as well as detailed geotechnical design, complete with preparation of details and specifications. Projects have been located throughout Maine, from a traffic project in Kittery to the subsurface exploration program for the replacement of the Eastport breakwater to mitigation design of failing embankments along the Androscoggin River in Durham and the St. John River in Frenchville to roadway reconstruction and bridge replacements in Maine’s Western Mountains to upgrades to ferry terminals in Penobscot Bay.
- Under Engineering Task Order Agreements for the Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA), SchonewaldEA has completed numerous peer reviews on behalf of MTA of geotechnical work completed by their prime consultant teams. SchonewaldEA has also served as the geotechnical team member or provided significant geotechnical support for numerous bridge, highway, and traffic projects for MTA’s prime consultants.
Many of SchonewaldEA’s projects have been for hydropower clients, providing an opportunity to travel to some remote and breathtaking sites in Maine and New Hampshire. Projects have included instrumentation program support, subsurface explorations, geotechnical design, bid document preparation, and construction oversight.
